YA Books That Should be Movies

YABooksThatShouldBeMovies

Hello readers!

On Tuesday I did a post on the YA books becoming movies in 2018 (and I am highly anticipating each of them), so this week I thought it would be fitting to tell you all the YA books that I believe would make great movies. For this post, assume that the movie would be exactly like the book and the film-making people didn't ruin it.

Let me know down below what books you would want to be adapted into movies, and who you would cast for the roles!

So, the first book on my list is...

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Could you imagine this being a movie? The action, the drama, the suspense... I can already see it winning best picture. It's probably because she already plays an awesome space character, but I feel like Daisy Ridley would make an excellent Kady - she's so pretty, she already plays Rey and does an amazing job, and she would be great at being the strong, selfless character that Kady is.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

This is the other book I would most like to see be made into a movie. I just feel like it would be so magical, and there's so much to work with. I would say Throne of Glass as well, but I just feel like this would make for an even better movie - ToG is definitely more suited for the TV show that it's getting. I feel like Rhysand has to be Brant Daugherty - he's dark-looking and he just looks like a Rhysand. I see a lot of people wanting Ian Somerhalder to play Rhysand, and I would definitely be down for that because I love Damon Salvatore, but I just think he's too ingrained in my mind as Damon, so him being RHysand would be so conflicting.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

I feel like the magic definitely needs to show up a little sooner in the movie so it doesn't feel like it was made for convenience, but that is all I would change. I have no idea who I would cast for the roles, I just hope that Laia and Elias look good together. (I also want to put Emma Watson or Daisy Ridley in for all the female roles and I can't do that)

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

This would be such an incredibly movie! The CGI it would take to make this would take several years to finish, but I will be first in line to see it. The making of this movie could go so wrong so fast, but like I said at the top, we are assuming the movies are exactly like the book. I feel like Grace Huang should play Cinder (I've never seen her act, but I searched around to find a really good fit for the role), but we all know the movie industry is going to cast someone not Asian.

Starters by Lissa Price

It has been a long time since I read this first book - from what I remember it would make a great book with the whole corrupt industry concept. If you don't know, the book follows a girl living in a dystopian future where a disease killed everyone who isn't elderly or a child/teen. In an attempt to live as long as possible, young people are pretty much sacrificed to the elderly in this company that puts the mind of the elder in the young person. It's just a great idea, and it really reflects on today's society which is interesting and also terrifying.

The Living by Matt de la Pena

It has also been a long time since I read this book, so it's hard to remember some of it, but I do remember it involves the wreck of a ship (I believe a cruise ship) and the main character has to survive at sea. There is also the inclusion of zombie-like disease going around. This was a great take on the whole zombie idea instead of just having a character live in the city and try to survive

The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid

Making a movie for this book may be a flop because it wouldn't be the most eventful movie, but I feel like it'd be like Mockingjay but in space and in the way future. I don't know who to cast for Nemesis, comment down below if you have an idea. I just can't picture her well enough now to cast her.

Again, let me know the books you would like to see made into movies and who you would cast for the parts!

Thank you for reading!

Taylor

  1. A lot should be movies but very few studios are willing to invest in fantasy based books which is a shame.

  6. I would really love an Illuminae movie! I think that would be a great opportunity for a screenwriter to take some already great source material, and put their own spin on it (especially because the novel uses a lot of unique storytelling techniques so I'd love to see someone incorporate a different and experimental filming techniques)

  7. I'm sure that Cinder was actually white 🤔 I remember people being upset that the book was set in Asia but the main character was still white

  15. I think a lot of fantasy books are better as TV shows, only because there is more room to lay out the intricate plots and world building. Does anyone else agree?

  17. She was white (or something like that) because she wasn’t from Asia.
