My Nightmare-ish Reading Slump

Hello everyone!

Have you ever had such a bad reading slump that you can't even bring yourself to pick up a book? That has been me for more than a few weeks now, and I'm beginning to think something is actually wrong with me.

I believe the problem started when I wasn't that into Night Circus mixed with the fact that I really just wanted to leave my room and have some fun. I feel like since I didn't spend all my time with my face in a book, even though I miss reading so terribly, I have done so much. I have become a Society19 writer and pumped out an article for One and the Same on the #MeToo movement that I am so incredibly proud of. I have also been spending more time with friends and experiencing college life which is the one thing I think I was really wanting because after this semester, things are going to start to get really serious in school

I also really apologize to you all that I haven't been as active on social media and I haven't put up a review in so long. I am going to try to start reading again soon, so bear with me! I believe I kind of go through this after every winter because the sun is out finally and I just want to swim, tan, and hang out.

Please tell me about your worst reading slump! I need to know I'm not the only one lol

  1. It's so cool that you're a society 19 writer! Definitely going to check out your article. Also, I get being in a reading slump. They're the worst but sometimes it is just HARD to sit down and read.

  3. Glad to hear your getting out and being productive! I’m sure you’ll come back to reading. Maybe all it will take is a streak of bad weather and maybe a sale on Amazon to bring you back.

I had a horrible reading slump when I first moved overseas. This was before the internet was really a thing and cell phones were basically only little telephones (wow, this was a really long time ago). There were English books available, if you wanted to spend an hour on the train to the one “international” bookstore and read movie adaptations at staggering prices. The lack of anything remotely interesting plus the fact I was so busy just trying to survive in my new environment meant that it was years before I even thought about reading. Now with my smartphone kindle app and everything available online, I’m finding it hard to do anything but read! Don’t worry, you’ll get back into it when the time is right for you.

  5. Sorry to hear you've hit the reading blues!! On the flipside it's good that you've actually been heading out and having some fun and being productive!
My reading slump actually happened after I read The Circle from Dave Eggers - that book I just hated like no tomorrow so took my motivation away to even dare to pick up anything else.

  8. The change into spring makes us all a little stir crazy. I’m ready for the pool and vacations! But I’ve also had some issues with things at work this month that have distracted me. I feel my mind wondering when I read or listen to an audio book. It will pass and I’ll be back on track, but I know I need to deal with myself for now. We all have the ups and downs of being a reader. You’re getting great experiences in life it seems like and that’s what matters. Don’t push away fun or opportunities to branch out because you feel pressured to finish a book. It will be there when you want it.
